Choose Wolfman Chimney & Fireplace for Your Annual Chimney Maintenance
Whether you have a wood-burning fireplace or gas logs, it’s important to establish a regular maintenance routine to ensure that your heating appliance is in working condition at all times. We advise our clients to follow recommendations from the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and schedule chimney maintenance at least once a year.
What does a good chimney maintenance plan look like? Great question! To keep your fireplace in tip-top shape, we suggest being proactive by scheduling a yearly chimney cleaning and chimney inspection.
- Chimney Cleaning. Is it possible to completely clean a chimney? No, and that’s why you’re probably more familiar with the term “chimney sweeping.” No matter what phrase you use, it’s a vital service that clears out creosote, nesting materials, twigs, and any other fire hazard that might be lurking in your chimney.
- Chimney Inspection. Most times, chimney damage will remain hidden until it’s advanced to the point that it’s causing problems – and it’s usually more expensive and harder to remedy by then. Wolfman Chimney & Fireplace is here to help with that. We offer all three levels of chimney inspections so if there’s something wrong with your fireplace, we’ll get to the bottom of it.
The 3 Levels of Chimney Inspections
There are three levels of chimney inspections and we do all of them. What type of chimney inspection do you need? Well, that depends. Let’s take a quick look at the different types of chimney inspections and when each one is necessary.
- Level 1 Inspection. This is the most common inspection and it’s the one we perform as long as 1) your chimney is easily accessible, 2) you haven’t made any changes to the system since your last inspection, and 3) you don’t have a history of problems. A chimney technician will look at the readily accessible parts of the interior and exterior of the chimney.
- Level 2 Inspection. We use video equipment to get an up close and personal look at the internal surfaces of the chimney. We typically recommend a level 2 inspection when there’s been an incident like a chimney fire or damage resulting from bad weather. These are also required with buying or selling a home.
- Level 3 Inspection. If a Level 2 inspection shows concerns that we need to investigate further or if there’s been an event that could jeopardize the chimney’s structural integrity, we’ll do a Level 3 inspection. This is the most intensive type of inspection because it usually calls for us to remove or demolish parts of the chimney or the surrounding wall.

Have a Leaky Chimney? Call Us
It’s happened to us, too – a bad storm rolled through and there was a sudden torrential downpour of rain. The weather cleared up eventually, but it left behind some evidence: signs of a leaky chimney. When your chimney springs a leak, it needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. Water is your chimney’s biggest enemy, and it can lead to all sorts of problems throughout the chimney system. These are just a few examples of the chaos water can cause:
- A rusty chimney cap or chase cover
- Deterioration and discoloration of the masonry
- Mildew and mold growth
- Damage to the damper
- Foul odors
- Stains on the walls and ceiling near the chimney
We’re here to stop water from wreaking havoc on your chimney. Wolfman Chimney & Fireplace offers several options to prevent chimney leaks such as waterproofing and flashing installations. Call today or reach out online, so we can find the perfect solutions for you.
You Can Also Turn To Wolfman Chimney & Fireplace for Dryer Vent Cleanings
Everyone understands that chimneys come with a fire hazard risk, but there’s a good chance you have a bigger threat to fire safety in your home – your dryer. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), washers and dryers combine for an average of 15,500 fires every year with 92% of those incidents attributed to dryers.
Fibers and bits of cloth break away from your clothes when you run a cycle of laundry through your dryer. Those bits clump together to form lint – one of the most flammable things in your home. The lint clogs the dryer vent and it will eventually overheat. That’s all it takes to spark a fire.<
We know that sounds scary, but before you commit to a life of grime and vow to never do laundry again, you should know that dryer fires are completely preventable. How? With dryer vent cleaning. Schedule a couple of dryer vent cleaning appointments with Wolfman Chimney & Fireplace every year to lower your risk of a dryer fire.
